Group graduation shoots are an amazing way to make memories during the documentation of this accomplishment. The friends I made in college, are like my little chosen family. Having them be apart of the session and sharing the fun of it together adds to the excitement. Also, getting your photo taken can feel awkward, nothing helps get you in the right mindset like having your hype people there to gas you up, fix a stray hair or make you giggle for the perfect candid shot!

Prepping for your group graduation session here are a few things to consider to make sure the session flows easily.

Know your friends, are they late? Do they need a reminder to pack their cap and gown? Being proactive over how to best check in on your friends before the shoot to ensure a smooth photo session.

Plan out your spots beforehand. Knowing what locations on campus are a must for you. Wether the Bell Tower, Old Well or a dining hall you feel weirdly attached to. Thinking through any spots that are special to you that your photographer won’t know. Most photogs will have the most iconic campus spots in mind, and you as the student get to mold the session to you and your individual college experience. I went to Appalachian State University and made sure to get some images in front of my department building.

This is a group shoot but it’s your individual moment. It is important to get all the images you desire at the session, don’t be afraid to speak up if there’s a spot you want or a flick the photographer captured of your friend that you also want. Personally, I am happy to hear feedback from my clients during the shoot. It’s how I can make sure you love your images.

It may take a little longer than you thought, If you are wanting golden hour light it is important to start at least an hour before the peak light. A shame to have missed some of the best light due to timing,
